Job Description

The Regional Recruitment Coordinator, under direction, will facilitate the engagement, recruitment, advising, and overall support of students across multiple high schools and community college partners in the Region 4 area into PVAMU’s College of Education. This role will involve collaborating with various stakeholders, managing communications, and providing guidance to prospective and current students alike regarding educational pathways, scholarships, and paid apprenticeship opportunities into the profession of teaching. The ideal candidate should be highly organized, possess strong communication skills, have a track record of influencing, and have a deep understanding of the local education landscape, process for becoming a teacher, scholarships, and grants.

The Regional Recruitment Coordinator will plan, supervise, and implements receptions, public relations and recruitment events in the assigned region. Assesses and generates market, approaches and evaluates potential student markets to achieve stated College of Education’s recruitment goals. Will serve as a liaison and main contact for community college advisors and WRGCOE Teacher Education advisor(s). Represents Prairie View A&M University on and off campus for assigned territory to prospective students, parents, staff and faculty to attract quality applicants and achieve enrollment goals.

This position may pay more than the salary listed above depending on the qualifications and experience of the selected candidate.

Responsibilities:

High School and Community College Engagement:

  • Establish and maintain relationships with Region 4 area K-12 high schools and the Teacher Education Programs at Blinn College, Houston Community College, Lone Star College, and San Jacinto College.
  • Collaborate with school counselors and community college advisors/faculty/leaders to identify potential students interested in teacher career pathways.

Pipeline Clarity:

  • Ensure clarity in teacher career pathways for students, emphasizing choices and opportunities available.
  • Provide guidance on selecting the most suitable educational routes based on students’ goals and interests.

Communication:

  • Manage and update recruitment-related information on the organization’s website and/or make recommendations for other organization’s communication.
  • Oversee the organization’s presence on social media platforms to promote teacher career opportunities.
  • Maintain paper documentation (flyers, handouts) for outreach and communication.

Webinars and Events:

  • Host webinars and events aimed at informing students and their families about teacher career options and opportunities.
  • Organize a minimum of four webinars or events per semester where prospective candidates can visit school districts, speak to current and former teacher residents, in-service teachers, and learn about career opportunities in teaching.

Student Advisement:

  • Maintain a database of engaged students from across each of the high schools and community colleges to determine approaches/strategies and engagement cadence.
  • Advise students on academic and career paths in teaching, ensuring they are on the right track towards achieving their goals.

Governance Coordination:

  • Convene quarterly meetings with representatives from Community Colleges and Educational Preparation Programs (EPPs) to facilitate governance and alignment of recruitment efforts.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, counseling, sociology, psychology, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Three years of related experience.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.
  • Knowledge of admissions functions of higher education.
  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to present information clearly and concisely.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Excellent interpersonal skills for building relationships with schools, colleges, and students.
  • Organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks.
  • Fluent in using technology, including website management and social media platforms.
  • Bilingualism (preferred), interfacing with parents is a part of the job.
  • Previous experience in education or student recruitment is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of the education landscape, scholarship opportunities, and apprenticeship programs and/or the ability to learn quickly.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Commitment to the organization’s mission and values.

Special Requirements:

  • Applicants with equivalent experience in lieu of a Bachelor’s degree may be considered. One year of the related experience is the equivalent of one college year. Applicants being considered for the equivalency must have four years of related experience to meet the equivalency in lieu of a Bachelor’s degree plus the minimum required years of experience. Applicants being considered for the equivalency must have a total of seven years of experience.
