Job Summary

Reporting to the University of Michigan School of Public Health (SPH) Director of Strategic Initiatives, the Recruitment & Engagement Coordinator manages administrative activities of the Future Public Health Leaders Program (FPHLP), a competitive summer immersion program funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) that introduces underrepresented students to the disciplines of public health.

This position is term-limited and grant-supported through 9/28/2027, with potential for extension if the grant is renewed. The compensation includes a salary range of $49,000 – $56,000 .

The position will be based in the Department of Health Behavior and Health Equity (HBHE) at the University of Michigan School of Public Health. Responsibilities*

  • Lead the design and implementation of the FPHLP student recruitment process, Survey Monkey application and interview process
  • Help design and implement a national communications plan that fosters the engagement, recruitment and selection of diverse participants
  • Oversee alumni engagement activities, such as the alumni board and LinkedIn Group
  • Develop an active database of institutions and organizations to facilitate recruitment of program applicants
  • Help coordinate activities (didactic and applied learning) for an up to 10-week summer immersion program, including informational courses, workshops, special projects, and site visits.
  • Participate in initiative meetings, workgroups, and technical calls to foster the refinement of program design and evaluation
  • Support in the development of training and instructional materials for students, advisors, and mentors
  • Oversee temporary student staff
  • Manage course materials, announcements, and communications
  • Arrange for and participate in the advising services to students on personal and academic matters
  • Provide administrative support, such as preparing expense reports, making travel and accommodation arrangements, ordering supplies, and processing purchase orders
  • Develop and share communications and promotional materials
  • Manage project-related social media
  • Enhance and update project website(s), identifying and implementing ways to enhance its layout and content
  • Participate in recruitment activities
  • Be a spokesperson and representative for the program within and outside the SPH
  • Work collaboratively with other team members

Required Qualifications*

  • Bachelor’s degree in public health, social work, or an equivalent combination of related education and experience
  • 2+ years of experience in program design, implementation, and management in a higher education environment
  • Demonstrated proficiency in collaborating with diverse groups of individuals
  • Demonstrated proficiency in reviewing, interpreting, and summarizing data
  • Demonstrated proficiency in public speaking and presenting
  • Demonstrated proficiency in event planning and execution

Modes of Work

Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department. Work agreements are reviewed annually at a minimum and are subject to change at any time, and for any reason, throughout the course of employment. Learn more about the work modes.

In this hybrid position, you’ll work 2-3 days onsite weekly during the academic year (September to April) and 5 days onsite per week during the summer (May to August). You’ll travel to on-and off-campus locations and work occasional evenings and weekends.
