Summary
This on campus role covers the dual responsibility of Primary Designated School Official for a small base of International students (approximately 60 students) and Sr. Admissions counselor for domestic students. The Admissions Counselor conducts on and off campus outreach and recruitment activities; counsels prospective students on all aspects of the enrollment process including program review, financial aid resources, and requirements for matriculation; and maintains meaningful contact with prospective students through e-mail, instant messaging, letters, phone calls, interviews and other available communication vehicles.
The PDSO is the primary designated official responsible for the institution’s compliance with regulations related to International students studying in the US. The PDSO overseas the work of the Designated School Officials, and serves as the primary contact for the Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP).
Primary Designated School Official (PDSO) responsibilities:
- Serve as Primary Designated School Official (PDSO), representing the college to the Department of Homeland Security and the Department of State, including the issuing of I-20 documents and maintenance of SEVIS records.
- Advise international students and visiting scholars on immigration regulations including SEVIS registration, personal information updates, Work Authorization CPT and OPT.
- Monitor all active International students, whether in-school or off-campus work activities, including 12 months after program completion.
- Advise the college regarding international student related issues as per Department of Homeland Security and Department of State regulations, pursuant to maintaining international students’ immigration and visa status.
Sr. Admissions Counselor responsibilities:
- Meet target goals for new undergraduate and graduate student enrollment through the process of inquiries, applications, and registered students.
- Partner with Academic Deans to create and present program-specific presentations.
- Host virtual and in-person information sessions to prospective students.
- Develop and cultivate relationships with high schools, colleges, businesses, civic organizations, community leaders and other entities that would potentially support enrollment efforts.
- Ensure documentation for acceptance and enrollment are collected, accurately recorded in the student file, and reconciled with the student database (Slate and PowerCampus).
- Provide campus tours to prospective students, their family and friends.
- Travel on behalf of the College for recruitment and other college-related events.
- Performs follow-up activities (phone calls, text messaging, emails, ZOOM) to prospective student inquiries, contacts and interviews.
- Actively adhere to and communicate institutional mission.
- Attain comprehensive knowledge and act as the liaison for MCNY programs.
- Attain comprehensive knowledge and act as the liaison for students enrolling as one of the following: International Student, US Armed Forces Veteran, or high school student population cohort.
- Job requires domestic travel (mostly tri-state), some evenings and weekends required.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree (Masters preferred) plus one year of experience as a PDSO and three years of experience working in Admissions Department of higher education institution.
- Must have excellent customer service, written and oral communication skills.
- Demonstrated analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills
- Must be MS Office proficient and have experience with a customer relationship management (CRM) systems
- The ideal candidate is a self-starter with a demonstrated ability to multitask and work independently.
- Must be able to maintain discretion on confidential matters.
In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $62K to $68K.
