Description
Reporting to the Executive Director
of Undergraduate Admission, the Admission Counselor is responsible for all aspects of admission recruiting, including delivering on-campus
and off-campus admissions programs, reviewing freshman applications for undergraduate admission, networking, and building relationships with
high school counselors, prospective students, and parents. This entry-level position is designed to provide candidates with an introduction
to careers in higher education. Candidates must be willing and able to organize and handle all aspects of administration while adhering to
the rules and regulations of Hofstra University, the Colonial Athletic Conference, and the NCAA. Evening and weekend hours may be required
to support special projects and events.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Conducts presentations for visiting
students, parents, and high school counselors regarding the admission and financial aid processes, policies, and
procedures. - Maintains communication with prospective students from across the country via email, phone, and text message throughout
all stages of the recruitment and admission process. - Speaks to groups and individual students and meets with school officials to
develop partnerships between the University and high schools in an assigned geographic region. - Interviews prospective students and
candidates for admission. - Represents the University Admissions Office at evening college fairs, college nights, and admissions
panels. - Serves as the primary contact and reader for applications for admission for designated applicant pool(s).
- Performs
other related duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Minimum 0-1 years of
related experience. - Valid driver’s license.
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, administrative, and oral and written
communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- One year of admissions experience
preferred. - Familiarity with computerized admissions and financial aid systems, such as Ellucian Banner and Slate.
- Working
knowledge of PC-based word processing and spreadsheet programs.
